This is an optional offering. Once deployed, users are responsible for its maintenance and updates. Feel free to ask for feedback in the #peer-support channel on EWC RocketChat.

EUMETCast is EUMETSAT’s primary dissemination mechanism for the near-real-time delivery of satellite data. EUMETCast serves data through two complementary delivery systems: EUMETCast Satellite and EUMETCast Terrestrial.

Terrestrial services for data distribution, available and supported, include:

Additional terrestrial services for data distribution will be created in the future for various missions. If unsure of which services your credentials grant you access to, please contact the EUMETSAT User Helpdesk (ops@eumetsat.int).

How to provision EUMETCast Terrestial on AMT

If provisioning after October of 2025, we recommend deploying based on the community hub, to benefit form upcoming features or fixes.

Pre-requisites

Tellicast License

  1. Register a user account on theEUMETSAT User Portal
  2. Subscribe to the service and data for EUMETCast Terrestria
    • Ensure you select at least one EKU (temporal quota allocation)
  3. Request a EUMETCast Terrestrial user key for access from the EWC
    • Write to EUMETSAT Helpdesk (ops@eumetsat.int), making sure to provide them your EUMETSAT User Portal username alongside your request

Upon completion of the above steps, you should have the following credentials at hand:

NameDescription
usernameTellicast license user identifier, Equivalent to your EUMETSAT User Portal username.
userkey

Tellicast license activation key (i.e. the user key you obtained via from EUMETSAT Helpdesk).

Security Group

You may create security groups either via Morpheus UI settings OR via Community Hub Item deployment.

eumetcast

Create a designated security group with a descriptive name (e.g. "eumetcast" ) and add to it the following rules:

NameDirectionRule TypeProtocolPort RangeSource TypeSourceDestination TypeDestination Port Range
2268-udpingressCustom RuleTCP2268Network0.0.0.0/0Instance
8500-tcpingressCustom RuleTCP8500Network0.0.0.0/0Instance

ssh

A security group for ssh access should exist in your tenancy by default. Simply verify it is available and enforcing the following rules:

NameDirectionRule TypeProtocolPort RangeSource TypeSourceDestination TypeDestination Port Range
22-tcpingressCustom RuleTCP22Network0.0.0.0/0Instance

Deployment based on the EWC Community Hub

Checkout the corresponding Community Hub Item.

Deployment via Morpheus UI (deprecated)

This method of deployment is deprecated, and kept in documentation only as reference for EUMETSAT tenancies that relied on it prior to October of 2025.

  1. Go to Provisioning → Instances and click 'Add' button

2. Use the search bar to find the 'EUMETCAST TERRESTRIAL ON AMT' (type eumetcast or terrestrial for example):

3. Select name for your VM (e.g. eumetcast-client)

4. Use the following specifications for the provisioning of the client:

Resource

Recommendation

CPU

8 cores

RAM

64 GB

OS

Ubuntu v 22.04

Storage

1.2TB

EWC Plan

hm.xlarge

Note that by default, none of the available VM plans offer you 1.2 TB of storage. In order to reserve said amount of storage, you must attach an additional volume to your VM and specify the desired size:

5. Insert your Tellicast license credentials

6. Select the following security group

  • eumetcast

 7. Select the floating ip as external

 8. Hit Next and Complete to create the VM

9. Enable NAKs Morpheus Legacy: How to enable NAKs for EUMETCast Terrestrial on AMT

10. Enable ACKs Morpheus Legacy: How to enable ACKs for EUMETCast Terrestrial on AMT

11. (Optional) Enable ssh access to the VM, by browsing the Morpheus UI to your eumetcast VM → Network → Security Group → Edit Security Group → add ssh.

Once the service is provisioned, the user will start to receive their subscribed data on their VM (stored by default in /root/data/eumetcast/ but can be changed in the /etc/cast-client-channels_ter-1.ini file).

Note that all data is deleted 5 minutes after retrieval by default, to prevent the build-up of data on the machine. To learn how you can modify this behavior, checkout EUMETCast Terrestrial on AMT - How to modify the time to live of the data.

User Notification Service

To access the User Notification Service (UNS), go to uns.eumetsat.int. You can find information on service alerts, scheduled maintenance and service enhancements. You can subscribe to UNS email notifications via the Earth Observation Portal. In addition, users can receive regular updates on scheduled maintenance and service enhancements through our EUMETSAT Users Twitter feed.
