Earlier this year an issue regarding point rain artefacts in our AIFS Single forecast model was identified and investigated. The underlying cause was identified and a new version of AIFS Single has been trained, which removes the point rain artefacts from the model.
This has been implemented as AIFS Single v1.1 on 31 July 2025 with the 06 UTC run. However, due to technical issue identified, it was reverted to AIFS Single v1.1 on 1 August 2025.
The technical issue related to GRIB2 metadata in the IFS Single v1.1 was fixed and parallel test production of AIFS Single v1.1 has been set up.
AIFS Single v1.1 will be re-implemented on Wednesday, 27 August 2025 with the 06 UTC run.
