S2S, sub-seasonal to seasonal prediction project, is a WWRP/THORPEX-WCRP joint research project established to improve forecast skill and understanding on the sub-seasonal to seasonal time scale, and promote its uptake by operational centres and exploitation by the applications community.
The first 5-year phase of the project began in Nov 2013
Phase II of S2S began in January 2019 and concluded in December 2023 with the project end
Another 5 year period (2024-2028) of archive support has been agreed and is currently underway
This website is related mainly to the dedicated S2S data archive of selected meteorological fields which has been created and maintained by ECMWF.
How to refer to S2S (Please add the following Acknowledgement to any publication resulting from the use of the S2S database)
“This work is based on S2S data. S2S is a joint initiative of the World Weather Research Programme (WWRP) and the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP). The original S2S database is hosted at ECMWF as an extension of the TIGGE database”. For dataset source, please cite: Vitart et al.,The Sub-seasonal to Seasonal (S2S) Prediction Project Database.
